Our new exhibition on Hungarian brutalist architecture opens in March
From March 13, 2026, our new exhibition will be open to visitors at the Walter Rózsi Villa, offering a never-before-seen insight into Hungarian brutalist architecture.
The exhibition presents characteristic Hungarian buildings of the controversial but fashionable late modernist movement, together with the work of two internationally renowned designers of Hungarian origin: Marcel Breuer and Ernő Goldfinger. In addition, the public will have the opportunity to view works from Marcel Breuer's estate for the first time.
The exhibition, entitled " Breuer, Goldfinger and Other Magyars. Brutalist Architecture in and out of Hungary, " was prepared by HMA MPDC's own research, which assessed the impact of Brutalism in Hungary and identified hundreds of examples of it. During 2024–2025, more than 120 buildings were photographed and documented, supplemented by site visits, literature and archive research, and interviews with the designers.

The Hungarian Museum of Architecture and Monument Protection Documentation Center has just made the most significant purchase of its history: the institution has acquired objects previously owned by the world-famous Hungarian-American architect Marcel Breuer from private collections in America.

Docomomo International held its international conference between 9 and 14 December 2024 in Santiago de Chile. Ágnes Anna Sebestyén, one of the curators of our museum, gave a lecture about the opening exhibition of the Walter Rózsi Villa.
